On
the first of September thirty-two club members enjoyed a wine tasting,
followed by an expertly guided tour of the winery at Mirassou and dinner.
The highlight of the evening was a wonderful dinner, accompanied by a
glass of wine complementing the individual courses. The wine tasting set
the mood for a pleasant ambiance right away and everybody got acquainted
- if only we had Heidi's gift to remember names and faces - and started
out in a good spirits. The wines, which were generously poured, were very
delicious: two white ones and two red ones. On the tour, which followed
the tasting, we learned about the history on the Mirassoufamily
and of the winery since its foundation. We saw all the intricate machinery
needed in transforming the grapes into wine and we marveled at the refrigerated
giant tanks wherein the grape juice ferments to become wine. As we sat
down to dinner we marveled at the beautiful table setting and were soon
served the first course - charred ahi tuna - together with a suitable
white wine. From there on we ate through a delicious menu with many courses
- too voluminous to enumerate here. All the food was extremely delicious,
beautifully presented and expertly served, inspiring lively dinner conversations.
Everyone had a great time while eating too much and enjoying the generous
offerings of wine. In closing, we would all agree in saying to Heidi,
Ulrich and Nik: Thanks for organizing this shindig. We have to do this
more often.
